Nemasys^®

Nemasys^® is based on the beneficial nematode Steinernema feltiae and provides control of sciarids / fungus gnats, western flower thrips and leaf minor.

Nemasys^® contains nematodes in their vigorously infective juvenile stage. Once applied these nematodes seek out and control the larval stages of the sciarid / fungus gnat (Bradysia spp.) and the adult and pupae of the western flower thrip (Frankliniella occidentalis).

Once inside the larvae they release symbiotic bacteria, quickly killing the insect pest. The nematodes then reproduce inside the insect and release a new generation of infective juveniles which disperse in search of further larvae.

Nemasys^® is formulated in an unique non-residual gel formulation developed for foliar applications to ensure no residues on crops after application.

Western Flower Thrip Application

Conditions

Nemasys^® can be used in all crop situations where Western Flower Thrips are a pest problem. For the control of pupae a drench application is recommended and for the treatment of adults a foliar application is recommended.

Repeat applications as necessary as per your pest control programme, depending on treated crop and level of pest problem best results are obtained as part of a programme, please contact your advisor for specific recommendations.

Rates for Western Flower Thrip Pupae

For the control of western flower thrip pupae apply as a soil drench, a water volume of 2L / m² is recommended.

Best Application Practice

• Apply when soil / media is moist
• If application is made over foliage, irrigate immediately to wash nematodes into compost

Rates for Western Flower Thrip Adults

For the control of western flower thrip adults apply as a foliar application, a water volume (+/-) 0.1L / m², to ensure leaf coverage without runoff)

Best Application Practice

• Ensure good foliar coverage of spray but do not apply to runoff as the nematodes will washed away from target
• Use of a wetting and spreading agent will allow nematodes to reach target more effectively
• After application, ensure that the crop remains wet for at least 2 hours, close windows and ventilation during this period
• Do not apply in direct sunlight, use blackouts during and for at least 2 hours after application
• If using artificial lighting, switch of during and for at least 2 hours after application

Sciarid / Fungus Gnats Application

Conditions

Nemasys^® can be used in all crop situations where Sciarids / Fungus Gnats are a pest problem. It is important to target the application to where the larvae are present. Treat entire house or plant inventory as soon as pests or symptoms are seen; treat new plants as they are introduced.

Timings

Apply anytime when soil / media temperatures are between 10°C - 30°C

Rates

For the control of sciarid / fungus gnats apply as a soil drench, a water volume of 2L / m² is recommended.
